WAPRES Integrated Management Systems

Enviromental Management

Consumers, governments and enterprises around the world are increasingly seeking assurances that the forest and wood products they purchase are sourced from legally and sustainably managed forests. Independent, third party international certification of sustainable forest management has developed as the most effective means of demonstrating this assurance.

WAPRES is certified to the Australian Forestry Standard AS 4708 and International Standard ISO 14001: Environmental Management Systems.

These standards demonstrate that we have auditable management systems in place to control the impacts of our activities, products and services on the environment, ensuring that we conduct business in a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable manner.

The Australian Forestry Standard (AFS) is the leading management standard of the Australian Forest Certification Scheme, which certifies extensive areas of native forests and plantations across Australia. The AFS is a world class forestry standard which is endorsed by the world’s largest assessor of sustainable forest management, the Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised environmental management system ( EMS) standard, providing a model for companies to follow to create and implement their policy. This standard assists us to achieve consistent environmental regulatory compliance whilst embedding the concept of continuous improvements in environmental performance. Key requirements of ISO 14001 include:

  • Creation of an environmental policy
  • Identification of environmental aspects and their potential impacts
  • Formalising control systems and monitoring processes
  • Communication of policy and approach to employees and stakeholders
  • Setting objectives and targets
  • Compliance with relevant legislation

Health and Safety

Safety is a core value and a key priority within all of our operations. WAPRES’ objectives are to eliminate injuries in the workplace and ensure health and safety is considered as part of our daily operations.

We are aware that aspects of our business have the potential to impact on the safety of the general public, landholders and the wider community. The implementation of school bus curfews on haulage routes and notifying neighbours prior to prescribed burning are examples of how we engage the community in developing our safe systems of work.

We have implemented systems to continuously improve our OHS performance and are currently undergoing independent certification to the Australian Standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS) AS 4801.

AS 4801 specifies requirements for OHSMS to enable an organization to formulate a health and safety policy and objectives taking into account legislative requirements and information about hazards or risks. This standard applies to those hazards or risks over which the organization may exert control and over which it can be expected to have an influence.
