SEED TO SAIL -

OUR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT POLICY

WAPRES strives to be a good corporate citizen and a valued community member by fostering mutually beneficial and pro-active relationships. WAPRES attempts to resolve community concerns at an early stage. This process builds on the good rapport we have developed between WAPRES, its workforce and the community through active involvement in community activities.

- LOOKING AFTER COMMUNITY INTERESTS EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

1. EMPLOYING PEOPLE FROM THE SOUTHWEST REGION

DesWAPRES employ approximately 100 people in Bunbury, Manjimup and other regional areas.

Many of our employees are actively involved in their local town and all contribute to the economic and social fabric of the regional community.

2. REDUCING THE RISK OF FIRE

TRUCK There has been concern expressed over the potential fire risk of plantations. However, in most cases plantation fires spread far more slowly than grass, crop or native bush fires under the same conditions, resulting in less area being burnt. Combined with the provision of good access (roads and firebreaks) and fire fighting resources for early detection and suppression the risk of damage by fire can be minimized.

3. BUILDING & UPGRADING ROADS

With heavy haulage operations operating on local and main roads, WAPRES contributes funding and works closely with Local and State Government Agencies to ensure that local roads used during harvesting operations are maintained or upgraded. WAPRES continues to play an active role in lobbying State and Federal Government for road and rail funding.

4. SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES

SupportWAPRES sponsors many events throughout the southwest each year. Ongoing support includes over 14 years of sponsorship of the Blackwood Waterwatch Program, and financial support for the Timber Communities Australia network in the south west of WA.

Many Landcare groups (such as the "Friends of Manjimup Timberpark", pictured) and Shires throughout WA's southwest are provided with native tree seedlings for local projects. Many local sporting teams and community events from Cranbrook through to Donnybrook benefit from funds provided by WAPRES. Click here to view more on sponsorship.
